This presentation accompanied the the KU Engineering Management Field Project report required as part of the University of Kansas Engineering Management Masters Degree. It presents the literature research of why projects fail and Front End Loading and Risk Management tools identified to address what is viewed as the primary cause.
The case study includes a comparison of two similar projects that I managed in 2000 and 2001. Both were upgrades using the same type control system with a limited time to complete the cutover. One project included a Front End Loading Phase and the other started straight with execution. The risks averted and realized in both cases are used as a comparison
